Apium graveolens

Also called as wild celery, Ajamoda is a classical ayurvedic herb commonly used for abdominal colic/pain abdomen as a home remedy but not limited only to these functions. The description is as mentioned below :

Although ajamoda is confused with yavani, but both these plants are different herbs.

In common use one can feel that ajamoda is not as pungent in taste as yavani.

Therapeutic usage

  1. Atisara : Milk prepared by adding ghee, honey, sugar, ajamoda, aralu and madhuka (Su.S.Ut. 40/79)
  2. Vata Dusht Stanya : Ghee mixed or cooked with the powders of Rasna, Ajamoda, Sarala and Devadaru should be given with sugar (A.H.Ut. 2/12)
  3. Swara Bhanga : Ghee prepared from goat’s milk should be consumed after processing with yava kshara and ajmoda (Su.S.Ut. 53/11)

६. अजमोदा खराधा च मायूरो दीप्यकस्तथा तथा ब्रह्मकुशा प्रोक्ता कारवीलोचमस्तका ॥

अजमोदा कटुस्तीक्ष्णा दीपनी कफवातनुत् | उष्णा विदाहिनी द्या वृष्या बलकरी लघुः ॥

नेशमय कृमिच्छर्दिहियाबस्तिहजो हरेत् ।। (भा.प्र.)

मायुरी शिखिमोदा च मोदाळ्या वह्निदीपिका । ब्रह्मकोशी विशाली च द्यगन्धोबगन्धिका ।।

मोदनीः फलमुख्या च विंशत्याख्यासुवाचिका | अजमोदा कटुरुष्णा इक्षा कफवातहारिणी रुचिकृत्।।
