There are two Ayurvedic Medical Colleges in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir:-
- Govt Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu (GAMC-JAMMU)
- Jammu Institute Of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR-JAMMU)
Govt Ayurvedic Medical College Jammu is the first Govt. undergraduate Ayurvedic medical college of Jammu and Kashmir which was re-established in year 2017. The college is affiliated to University of Jammu and is approved by Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM). The college is currently working on a make shift basis from Indira Chowk Jammu but it’s main campus is situated at Akhnoor which is approximately 32km from Jammu City. The college was initially opened with an intake capacity of 50 students per year, but in 2020 the intake capacity has been increased from 50 seats to 63 including the 15% All India Counselling Quota. There are two Associate hospitals of GAMC-Jammu :
- Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital, Indira Chowk Jammu
- Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital, Akhnoor Jammu
The college is running smoothly under the guidance of Dr. Shashi Sudan who is the principal of GMC-Jammu and given additional charge of Principal GAMC-Jammu.
Currently there are 3 batches which are pursuing B.A.M.S. (Bachelor’s In Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) and the 4th batch is yet to come.

Jammu Institute of Ayurveda & Research (JIAR-JAMMU)
Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research is a reputed private post graduate Ayurvedic Medical College of J&K which is also called as JIAR-JAMMMU. The college is affiliated to University of Jammu and is approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM). Selection Process for B.A.M.S. In Jammu and Kashmir
The selection process is strictly based on NEET score and rank. After the release of NEET exam result, J & K Board of Professional Entrance Examination (JKBOPEE) issues a provisional merit list on the official website of the board. The candidates listed in the merit list are eligible candidates to participate in the admission process. The candidates need to complete the registration process and necessary documents are needed to be uploaded. Then board of professional examination (JKBOPEE) issues a merit list of registered candidates and filling of preferences starts. After filling of preferences the board issues a final list of selected candidates. The candidates are then directed to report to their allotted college along with all the documents, within a given time to get the admission done. After the last date of admission process the college provides shortfall if any, to BOPEE. Then further rounds of counselling are done by the BOPEE in their Jammu and Srinagar offices to cover up the shortfall.
